Lost Dog Miracle: How Annie the Havanese Found Her Way Home

Annie, a tiny 10-pound Havanese rescue, vanished without a trace after her leash was accidentally dropped. With dangerously cold temperatures setting in, her family was desperate to find her before it was too late. We deployed our thermal drone to search for her heat signature, but this mission turned out to be far more eventful than expected.

When we got the call, we knew time was critical. A small dog like Annie, lost for days in frigid conditions, faced serious danger. Her owners, Dave and Judy, along with community members, had already spent two days searching tirelessly. Annie was fast, skittish, and dragging her leash behind her, making her even harder to catch. The bright sun made her nearly invisible to thermal imaging, and strong winds added more complications. With options running out, we set humane traps with food in the area, with help from a local pet recovery partner. All we could do then was wait.

The Recovery: An Unbelievable Ending

Then, the unexpected happened.

Five days after Annie first went missing, Judy received a doorbell camera alert. When she checked the footage, she couldn’t believe what she saw.

Annie was home.

Against all odds, this little dog navigated her way back after nearly a week on her own. Cold, tired, and hungry, she had found her way to safety.

It was nothing short of a miracle. The search and rescue efforts may not have caught Annie directly, but they kept her family’s hope alive and in the end, Annie gave them the greatest surprise of all.
